The basics

What is Hati-mo?

A shared record of who paid for what in a group, and who owes who because of it. Add expenses as they happen, and Hati-mo keeps everyone’s balance up to date. When it’s time, it suggests a few payments that settle everything.

Why is it called Hati-mo?

Hati means “split” or “half” in Tagalog, and hati mo is “your share.” The Shiba on the logo is called Hati, and Hati is very fair about bills.

Is it free?

Yes, while Hati-mo is in private beta.

Is there an iPhone or Android app?

For now, Hati-mo runs in your phone’s browser at hati-mo.com/app.

Money

Does Hati-mo move money or connect to my bank?

No. It records payments when you tell it about them. You pay each other the way you already do, by e-Transfer, cash, card or bank transfer. We never ask for bank details.

What happens to leftover cents?

Splitting $100 three ways gives $33.34, $33.33 and $33.33. The extra cent goes to the first person in the split, and Hati-mo shows it. The shares always add up to the total exactly.

Can more than one person pay for the same thing?

Yes. Add every payer and how much they put in. Hati-mo checks that the payments add up to the total before saving.

Can I pay back part of what I owe?

Yes. Record any amount up to what you owe and Hati-mo shows what’s left. It won’t let you record more than you owe.

Which currencies can I use?

Thirty, from the Canadian dollar to the Thai baht. Each group uses one currency, chosen when you create it. It locks after the first expense so amounts are never converted without anyone noticing.

Groups and friends

Do my friends need an account?

Not to be included. Add them by name and start splitting. If they want to see the group and add expenses themselves, send an invite link and they’ll take over their spot, history included.

How do invite links work?

Each link is for one person, works once and expires after 7 days. You can cancel a link before it’s used. Opening it shows the group name and who invited you before you join.

Can I leave a group?

Yes, once your balance in that group is settled. If you’re the owner, hand ownership to someone else first.

Someone added an expense by mistake. Can it be deleted?

Anyone in the group can reverse it. It stays in the history, marked as reversed, and stops counting toward balances. That way nothing quietly disappears.

Receipts

How does receipt scanning work?

Take a photo or pick one from your camera roll. An AI service reads it and suggests the store, items, tax and tip. You check every line, assign items to people, and save. Nothing is saved from the scan until you confirm.

What if it reads something wrong?

Edit any line before you continue. Hati-mo compares the items, tax and tip with the receipt total and tells you if they don’t match.

Your account

How do I join the beta?

Hati-mo is invite-only during the beta. If someone added you to the beta list, sign up with that email. If not, email feedback@hati-mo.com and tell us a little about your group.

Can I export or delete my data?

Yes. Settings has a download of everything you can see, and an option to delete your account once your balances are settled.

I forgot my password.

Use reset your password. We’ll email you a link.
