Okay, let’s set up a group. I’m planning a weekend in Tofino with Bea and Cy.
Give the group a name, and pick what kind of group it is. This one’s a trip.
Add your friends by name. They don’t need the app yet.
Pick the currency. Canadian dollars for us. Then create it.
Now grab an invite link for Bea. It only works once, and it expires in a week, so it’s fine to drop it in the group chat.
And that’s it. You’re ready to add expenses.
-
- Type the amount first, then a short description.
- Hati-mo splits it equally. Change who’s in, or switch to exact amounts, percentages or shares.
- Save. Everyone’s balance updates right away.

Dinner’s done and I picked up the bill. Let’s add it.
Type the amount first, a hundred and twenty dollars, then a quick description.
It’s split equally between everyone, and you can see each person’s share right away.
Save it, and everyone’s balance updates.
Groceries were different. Bea grabbed most of it, so I’ll split this one by exact amounts.
Twenty, forty, thirty. Hati-mo won’t let me save until it adds up to the total.
Done.
-
- Take a photo or choose one from your camera roll.
- Check the draft: store, items, tax and tip. Fix anything that’s off.
- Tap who had what, review the final split and save.

Long receipts are where splitting gets painful, so let’s scan one.
Take a photo, or pick one from your camera roll.
Hati-mo reads the store, the items, tax and tip, and gives you a draft.
Check it over. Nothing gets saved until you say so.
Then tap who had what. Bea had the matcha sodas. The rest, we’re sharing.
Review the final split and save. Every item stays on the expense, in case anyone asks later.
-
- Open Balances to see who owes who and the suggested payments.
- Record what was paid, all of it or just part.
- Review and confirm. The balance updates for everyone.

At some point, someone has to actually pay someone back.
Balances shows who owes who, and suggests the simplest way to even things out.
Bea’s paying back part of it now. Twenty dollars.
Review, confirm, and the balance drops right away.
And if someone types too much by mistake, Hati-mo stops them before anything’s recorded.
The small rules that keep things fair
Invite links expire
Each link works once and stops working after 7 days. You can cancel one any time before it’s used.
Currency locks after the first expense
Pick it when you create the group. Once money is in, it stays put so numbers never get converted behind your back.
Mistakes get reversed, not erased
Reverse an expense or a payment and it stays in the history, marked as reversed. Everyone can see what happened.
Ready to try it with your own group?
It takes about a minute to set up your first group.
